Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: A multiversal review!

By: Mihir Rao

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: One of the most awaited marvel movies, and it throws Stephen Strange into unfamiliar territory, where he will have to face the consequences for his actions, all while trying to remedy the destruction he has caused.

A little bit of backstory (SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN NO WAY HOME): In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker goes to Doctor Strange to help him erase the entire world’s knowledge of Peter being Spider-Man. However, the spell goes horribly wrong, and ‘destabilized’ the multiverse, bringing old foes from different universes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which caused a lot of trouble for Peter. After safely getting the villains back into their respective universes, Doctor Strange now has to face the repercussions of doing such a dangerous spell to make people forget Spider-Man’s true identity, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Cinematography: Doctor Strange 2 has some of the most unbelievable and cinematic shots of the entire franchise, and has simply stunning camerawork. Although the movie has to focus mainly on the story throughout the movie, the film-makers didn’t hesitate to make the movie visually incredible! Review: 9/10

CGI: Being a movie that heavily relies on CGI, the Computer Generated Imagery could make or break the movie, and, let’s just say that I was not disappointed in the least! The CGI in the movie was near-perfect, having incredibly realistic scenes with a fantastical story. Review: 8.5/10

Comedy: This movie was also incredibly funny, and didn’t try too hard to make people laugh, which ultimately worked out for them in the end. The dark tones of the movie were perfectly balanced with the funny moments throughout the film. Review: 9.5/10

Emotion: The cast of this movie perfectly conveyed the emotions they were trying to portray, and even made you sympathise with them. Due to the phenomenal writing and acting, one can really understand the characters emotions and motivations. Review: 10/10

Horror: When Sam Raimi said that he was going to have a horror element in the movie, many people were skeptical. However, I feel that they have executed the horror element absolutely flawlessly, and didn’t bombard you with jumpscares just to count as ‘horror’. There were many moments in the movie where I could feel my stomach drop due to the creepiness of the scenes. Review: 10/10

Tempo: The tempo of Doctor Strange 2 was perfect, and it fitted the story completely. There was never a moment where I felt that the movie was being stretched, and the movie didn’t seem that it was going too fast at any point in time. Review: 10/10

Story: There’s a reason I was saving this for last. The movie’s story was indescribable! It was seriously incredible! Doctor Strange was one of my favourite Marvel movies, so I really thought it was a tough act to follow. However, it really has nailed what it sought to do! The story is extremely captivating and engaging, and I found myself not wanting the movie to end! Since the story does contain a lot of spoilers, I can’t really talk about it, but every single part of the plot was amazing. Review: 10/10

However, one thing which the movie-makers could have added is more universes to see. Watching bizarre universes in the movie was great, and the movie would have been even better if they included even more worlds to witness!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was perfectly executed, from start to finish, and I recommend that you watch it if you can. It had amazing scenes, and was a movie worth watching! My only grievance with it was that it wasn’t longer! My final review: 9/10
