Fascinating Fitness!

By: Mihir Rao

Fitness is a vague topic, and it is often misdefined. Fitness can be of many varieties, and come in many shapes and forms, however people often think of fitness as a very generic thing.

The Main Stereotype:

Fitness is often misconstrued to mean physical fitness and being physically in great shape. When people are said to be ‘fit’, they generally mean that the person is in good physical condition and is physically healthy. However, this stereotype is wrong, as there are other types of fitness.

Mental Fitness:

In recent times, this has been brought to light, however it isn’t talked about nearly as much as it should be. Mental Fitness is just as important as physical fitness and requires just as much work and perseverance. Being mentally fit to do something is absolutely crucial. However, if someone ‘isn’t mentally fit to do something’, it doesn’t really mean that they have a condition or a disorder. Not being mentally fit to do something could also just mean that the person is not ready to accomplish the task or isn’t in the right frame of mind.

Methods:

For fitness, there are many different areas that one has to cover.

Exercise: Exercise is an essential part of remaining physically fit, and it is probably one of the most important parts. Exercise of course, does come in many different varieties with different intensities. Everyone has their capabilities and limits, so the same exercise routine would not fit everyone. Exercise is a necessary part of remaining physically fit, whether it’s walking around the house a couple of times an hour, or an intensive training regimen.

  • Stamina: This is somewhat of an extension of the first point, but it is really important for fitness. Having a high stamina would mean that a person would be able to endure a lot of physical activity without getting too exhausted. This is crucial since having good stamina is required in many day to day activities.

Diet: This is probably one of the most forgotten about points, which is absolutely essential for being in good physical condition. Eating the right foods and consuming foods rich in nutrients will help the body continue to work and function normally.

  • State of Mind: Being in a healthy state of mind is one of the most important things to mental fitness and not being in a healthy state of mind can have many adverse effects, not just on the mental health, but on the physical health too. To have a healthy state of mind, one can do certain exercises such as yoga and meditation to keep calm. Eliminating as much stress as possible will also really help a person’s state of mind..

Why be fit?

Being fit has a plethora of physical and mental benefits, which also comes with a huge improvement in quality of life.

To conclude, fitness is a necessary skill that we need to build, and hone. It is a very crucial part of our day to day lives and we would benefit from being in good shape greatly. However, to achieve anything you need to have a strong resolve. After all,

“The body achieves what the mind believes.”
