JULY-12th 2020

Cover Story:

Read our report on the strain on students in 2020, the numbers will shock you!

by Agastya Rao on July 7th

As the Coronavirus threatens to destroy us all, the amount of workload on children increases day by day. Students study on the screen for more than 8 hours a day. The pandemic has proved stressful for all of us, and look at the plight children are in! Here at the Paperless Press we have taken it upon ourselves to spread the world about this problem and help children. There is a lot of conversation about the physical and mental health of adults during the current crisis, but somewhere in this narrative, children’s struggles have been forgotten. Adults sometimes forget that children face stress too.

Students all around India have been complaining about additional strain on their eyes, their necks hurting, daily headaches, a feeling of being overburdened, sometim es a feeling of nothing being in their control. Some schools, like ours, have taken the proper steps to ensure that students’ screen time is not very long. Even a 15min break after every class is good, and gives a breather to both teachers and students. Some other: To not have all the work done on laptops, have sports classes, to have a weekly music or movie session with the class, and find a way to get Library/Reading time into the timetable. For more information on how to rest your eyes look at Abhimanyu’s article on Page 3. For information on how to stay happy and relax look at the article section on our website.

Stay Safe, Stay Busy!!

by Abhimanyu Rao on July 8th

The lockdown has been difficult for all of us, and many of us have got the urge to just run freely. We have got the urge to get together in big groups, with friends you haven’t met for three months! We all feel this, we are all humans, who yearn for this, but the best way to go about this is to distract yourself. Take up a hobby, learn to cook a meal, try out gaming, as written in Mihir’s article. Play board games with your family, or just talk. The amount of knowledge that can be exchanged through a conversation is the closest to infinity as you will get. Many of us have online school, and as Agastya said the strain on our eyes is UNIMAGINABLE. For this, you can try palming: placing your eyes on your palms so that no light enters, for 15 to 20 seconds. Alternatively, you can use the 20-20-20 rule: Look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds, every 20 minutes.
